Action Day: 20 Years of Food Banks in Germany is enough

26. April 2013 @ 15:00 - 28. April 2013 @ 18:00

On the anniversary of the 20 years existence of food banks in Germany, the “Kritisches Aktionsbündnis 20 Jahre Tafeln” (Alliance against 20 years of Food banks in Germany) was founded. Their goal is to strengthen social rights in Germany and thereby render the food bank system obsolete. They view the growing demand for charitable food assistance as a consequence of declining social security standards. Furthermore they regard the dependency on charity as inconsistent with the federal constitution’s charter to protect the dignity of every citizen.

Offering an exciting programme at SUPERMARKT, the alliance wants to inform public and media about their critical view on the growing food bank system and their demands concerning the strengthening of the social security net.

Starting with art and literature on Friday, there will be a discussion panel about “Alternatives to the privatisation of social rights” on Friday evening.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a sightseeing tour on the beneficiaries of growing poverty, readings, lectures, a workshop on the social future of Europe, followed by cabaret and theatre.

Cost: All events and even food will be for free – donations are welcome.

Language: German

Venue: SUPERMARKT – Brunnenstr 64, 13355 Berlin (U8 Voltastr or U8 Bernauerstr)
