For this temporary window-front installation at SUPERMARKT, Berlin-based artist Egemen Demirci (b. 1983) displays his work Horizons (Neon, 25 cm x ~1300 cm), visible from both Brunnenstrasse and inside SUPERMARKT in its various reflected forms.

The work was commissioned by Werkleitz Festival Utopien Vermeiden in 2013, and was exhibited in the future past – past future exhibition at SUPERMARKT in January 2014 as part of transmediale festival for art and digital culture 2014.

The work is a reflection on moments of change and crisis, as well as how they are socially and politically connected to eachother.

Through Horizons the artist refers to the perception of reality as one of the fundamental concerns of politics yet points to a detachment from this reality. He believes this paradox puts us in a situation where we are surrounded by things that are variable and constructed, appearing and/or disappearing absent of their existential qualities, and therefore making the setting immanent.
