HUMBOLDT UNIVERSITY SUMMER SCHOOL: URBAN CONFLICT AND CONTACT ZONES

17. June 2013 @ 10:00 - 28. June 2013 @ 18:00

What kind of urban design strategies are appropriate to enhance existing forms of participation and create new ones? Which are the important zones of contact and conflict?

From 17-28 June 2013, Urban Conflict will constitute the main subject and focus for the gratuate and postgratuate students of the Department of Geography, Georg-Simmel Centre for Metropolitan Studies, within Humbolts Summer School.

Urbanity refers to the characteristics, personality traits, and viewpoints associated with cities and urban areas, and the urban development is understood as a participatory process which often creates social and cultural conflicts. Taking conflicts as an opportunity to engage in a multitude of interventions, the aim of Humbolts Summer School is to develope interdisciplinary solutions and interventions from an urban conflict and contact zones point of view, enhancing the quality of life as well as the social cohesion in the city.
