The “clack-roach” is an invasive and dangerous species: a crossbreed of a Vibrobot and LED-Throwie that results in a buzzing, glowing and jittering bug! Beware!

In this workshop, children (and grown-ups too) learn how to build their own glowing vibrobot that clanks and moves around. Participants first explore how LEDs and motors work, and are then encouraged to build their own imaginative clack-roach designs, using a vibration motor (the sort that can be found in cell phones), a battery, an LED, some sticky tape and a bottle cap. No prior technical skills are required and participants can take home their live clack-roaches after the workshop.

Workshop leader Mey-Lean Kronemann (aka *m) has brought clack-roaches to life at multiple workshops since they were first sighted at Chaos Communication Camp in 2011. She is a Berlin-based artist, interaction designer and researcher. More information about *m and the history of the clack-roaches here.

Anyone over 8 years is welcome to attend. It is recommended that participants under 12 bring a guardian with them.
