Maptime Berlin — Geovisualization with CartoDB

14. October 2014 @ 18:00 - 21:00

Everybody is speaking about open data, about making data publicly available. But those huge amounts of data are of no use to us if we are not able to translate them into understandable formats. Visualizations of data can help us understand them, find relationships and connections and gain new insights. Thanks to a collection of new tools and resources data visualization is no longer restricted to the professional domain.

As part of the EU Code Week, Maptime Berlin will organize a special event on the topic of “Data Visualization and Maps”. In an extended workshop we will introduce the geovisualization tool CartoDB. CartoDB is an online tool for creating map-based visualizations. Beside their online service, CartoDB is available as an openSource project. Together we will learn the basic functionalities of the application, introducing you to the tools you need to create your own visualizations. In a hands-on session we will use a dataset on European migration patterns to create our own visualizations. In order to participate in the workshop you need no prior knowledge on visualization or web development. The only requirement is a laptop. The workshop will be held in English or German, depending on the participants.

A big thank you to CartoDB for sponsoring this event.
