From Wikileaks to SnowdenGate

29. September 2013 @ 17:00 - 19:00

The Internationalization of Research – And How Criminals and Covernments Try to Prevent it.

No matter how we look at Iraq War Logs, PRISM, XKeyscore or Abu Ghraib – not only are the finance sector, labor – and media markets international, digital communication and organized crime exceed the limits of boarders as well.

For years independent organizations worked on and introduced joint projects, such as the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project or the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). During the research and publications of the so-called “offshore leaks”, the ICIJ cooperated with more than 80 journalists from 38 newspapers, radio and television broadcasters from 46 countries all over the world.

How do you coordinate such an armada of stakeholders when regarding the management and evaluation of 2.5 million documents?  Who is funding such research?  How do we protect these operations from being monitored and block the access of regimes or corporations?

A conversation with Gerard Ryle, Director, ICIJ (International Consortium of Investigative Journalists) and Christian Mihr, Executive Director Reporters Without Borders, German Section – Chair: Matthias Spielkamp, iRights.Lab | iRights.info
