WRANGLING FOR WATCHDOGS: School of Data Workshop

26. March 2013 @ 10:00 - 28. March 2013 @ 18:00

School of Data is particularly interested in “wrangling for good” and data-driven policy making. That means, that civil society organisations, journalists and proactive citizens can make a real difference on political, social, environmental and other key issues by collecting, working with and communicating data effectively and convincingly.

This month School of Data will be organising a pilot workshop “Wrangling for Watchdogs” in Berlin. Some potential focuses for the workshop (which we will tailor to the particular aims of the participants) include:

– Workflow: Speeding up, simplifying and automating boring and repetitive tasks so that people can get on with doing more important things

– Getting better data from governments

– DIY data collection

– Wrangling skills and analysis

– Creative communication with data: presentation and data-driven-campaigns

[Plus other topics to be decided on with the participants]

By the end of the workshop, participants will have been given a boost to try new working patterns and communication methods, learn where and how to develop further their skills and think both critically and creatively about using data.

We have a small number of places available for Watchdog organisations. Please register using this form. We will contact you with a confirmation email if we are able to offer you a place on the course. In case we might not be able to accommodate everyone this time, if there are pockets of interest in particular countries, we’ll do our best to work out how to bring a workshop to you in the near future.

The language of instruction will be English.

Venue: SUPERMARKT – Brunnenstr. 64, Berlin (U8 Bernauerstr. or U8 Voltastr.)
