Sounds of the Kiez: Mobile Field Recording Workshop

Learn to compose “on the fly” mobile field recordings, with host Antye Greie-Ripatti

In this participatory workshop, led by artist Antye Greie-Ripatti [aka AGF], we explore the philosophical and technical possibilities of field recordings as a tool for adding variety, space, identity and integrity to composition or sound art.

The workshop concentrates on mobile recording, with a field trip through the Brunnenviertel either in groups or individually. Afterwards, recordings and results will be listened to together, discussed and assembled into an audio work to be published online.

1 – 2 pm: Introduction to the art of mobile field recording and the technical process
2 – 3 pm: Fieldwork [trip outside collecting sounds]
3 – 5 pm: Post-production, including uploading data to a sharing site [option for a "mix-tape" compilation]

Language: German and/or English, depending on participant preferences. The host speaks both languages and translations can be offered on request.

Requirements: Participants are requested to bring headphones and a recording device. Portable recorders such as ZOOM or Tascam are very welcome, as well as mobile iOS devices such as iPad and iPhone. At the beginning of the workshop the host will suggest the best Apps for each device to record and compose, as well as demonstrating how they work. All ages are welcome to attend.

Time: Thursday 19 June 2014, from 1pm – 5pm

Location: SUPERMARKT, Brunnenstr. 64 [U8 Bernauerstr. or U8 Volta Str.]

Cost: 10€ per person

Registration: Eventbrite
